Task: Identify Improvements For Event Management
The Event Management process must be continuously evaluated to identify improvements, if any, in the process.
Relationships
Main Description

The Event Manager must analyze the measurement and the review findings from the above task and identify improvement opportunities in the process. The identified improvement actions should be communicated to and worked upon along with the Engagement Manager.

The Event Manager should analyze measurement reports in order to identify failure points and improvement opportunities. These opportunities may be in Event Management or even extend to other processes. Some examples of improvement opportunities based on analysis of event measures include:

  • If it is observed that “number and percentage of events caused by existing problems or known errors” is very high; it may infer that the priority of work on that problem or known error needs to be altered.
  • Analysis of “number and percentage of repeated or duplicated events” may provide inputs that can help in tuning of the Correlation Engine to eliminate unnecessary event generation. Inputs from this metric may also be useful to design better event generation functionality in new services.
  • On analysis of “number and percentage of events indicating performance issues”, if it is observed that the number of times an application /infrastructure exceeds its transaction thresholds is constantly increasing; it would infer that the application or infrastructure need immediate attention. The Event Manager may need to escalate the same to appropriate stakeholders.

Based on the inferences of measurement analysis, the improvement actions should be identified. Once identified, the Event Manager must collaborate with the Engagement Manager and implement the same.
